Want to enter Middle East, North Sea, or North American oil & gas supply chains? API 6A and 6D are the basic entry tickets — without them, distributors filter you out.
What is API?
The American Petroleum Institute publishes industry-consensus standards covering wellhead equipment, pipelines, valves, and refining gear. Not government-mandated, but globally accepted — effectively a market gate.
API 6A vs API 6D
- API 6A — Wellhead and Christmas Tree equipment. High-pressure (2K-20K psi), sour gas environments. Materials: 4130, F22, 316L, Duplex, Inconel 625, Monel.
- API 6D — Pipeline and piping valves (ball, gate, check, plug). ANSI Class 150-2500, sizes DN15-DN1500. Materials: A105, LF2, 316L, Duplex S31803, Super Duplex S32750.
Simple rule: wellhead → 6A, pipeline → 6D.
NORSOK M-650
European/North Sea standard for material manufacturer qualification. Stricter than API. Required for Norwegian/UK offshore projects.
Three pragmatic entry strategies
- Direct API certification — for brand owners with capital and long-term commitment. 12-24 months to obtain.
- OEM subcontracting to API-certified brands — most practical for machining shops. Customer's certification covers the supply chain; you provide material traceability and quality records.
- MRO / aftermarket — replacement parts for operating facilities. Lower certification bar.
Weiyon's positioning
Not directly API-certified; rather, OEM partner to European/American valve brands (Cameron, Emerson, Flowserve, KSB). We deliver SUS316L, Duplex, Super Duplex, Inconel 625/718, and Monel 400 with mill test certificates, FAI reports, and full batch traceability — the substance behind the certification labels.
